About Us

Help For Hogs Rescue was founded in 2015 as the previous rescue had given up. So myself and my husband decided to give it a go. In the first year we cared for and returned to the wild eight hogs by 2018 we had cared for and returned to the wild sixty-nine hedgehogs. In 2019 we had 220 hogs admitted. In 2020 what a year what with covid and us unable to have volunteers we still had a total of 267 hogs into rescue

I treat the hogs with whatever medication the hogs may need also administer fluids if needed. My husband cleans all cages and hutches each day also weighs the hogs collects hogs that have been taken to vets either by us or people who have found them.

We also have people who we can call upon to do these things when we are away on holiday and also another rescue close to us who can administer medication. We also have a couple of foster carers who take hogs in when they have finished their medication so they can be grown on prior to being released back into the wild.

Covid-19 How it has affected us as a rescue.

Firstly the lockdown means we cannot have any of our normal volunteer’s come in on a daily basis for the cleaning weighing and topping up of food and water this now has to be done myself and Clive. And the biggest thing is now our inability to hold fund raising events or attending other events to fund raise. To give an example the Shobdon Food and Flying Festival is our biggest fund raising event of the year and as this has been cancelled because of the social distancing rules and the stop on large events we have lost between £400 and £500 in funds. It is now 2021 and still in the pandemic we had 364 hogs in this year and had a bad year for mortality. We lost 223 hogs this year for various reasons but returned 141 hogs back to the wild. 2022 what a year less hogs in 272 through the rescue again a bad year for mortality we lost 115 hogs but released 157 back into the wild.
